22 August, 2014: The International Jewellery London exhibition to be held at Olympia this year is set to be another successful opportunity for consumers and retailers alike. This year, as part of the IJL’s late night shopping opportunity on August 31st, there is to be a charity auction where IJL visitors will be able to bid for a unique piece of jewellery from some of the hottest contemporary designers such as Andrew Geoghegan, who is a featured designer in the F&L Designer Guides, as well as Shaun Leane, Tomasz Donocik, Lisa MacDonald and Alexander Davis.

All of the high profile designers taking part have won national and international awards for their designs, including for Geoghegan and Macdonald the title of BJA Designer of the Year and Donocik, Jordan and Davis the UK Jewellery Awards. Andrew Geoghegan was also recently listed in the F&L Designer Guides, an in-depth guide to the UK’s best and most talented bespoke engagement ring designers, as one of their ‘favourite’ contemporary designers.

The piece up for auction will be a bracelet cast by Hockley Mint, fashioned for Breast Cancer Care. Each designer has pledged to create a unique charm to be attached to it allowing the lucking winning bidder to own original works from five different designers.

The BJA, who is coordinating the auction in conjunction with the IJL, has said that; “This is a great chance for designer makers and larger jewellery businesses to gain some great publicity whilst also doing their bit for charity. The finished bracelet will be truly unique, especially as some of the designers taking part are not people who would normally create charms and we are optimistic that its sale will raise considerable funds for this very worthwhile cause.”

Each of the designers involved have all been highly successful in the exhibition arena as well as independent businesses. For example, not only has Andrew Geoghegan won numerous awards but he is frequently sought out by newly engaged couples hoping to commission their bridal jewellery from him, commissions that will surely be on the rise after the designer’s feature in the F&L Designer Guides.

The charity auction is expected to be one of the highlights of the IJL 2014. The piece up for bid will be completely unique and original and given its auspicious origins could be said to be priceless. A four page supplement will be available to bidders prior to the auction outlining the participating designers and the stories behind their charm design and creation.
