Aspiring CEOs battle it out hard for the title at Europe Asia Business School

Pune, March 7th, 2010: What‘s it really like to be a CEO? How do the best CEO‘s in the country lead today? What does it take to transform a young working professional‘s aspiration to be a CEO to reality? All this and much more were answered in the much awaited grand finale of ´Unleash the CEO within you‘.
´Unleash the CEO within you‘ campaign which started with an intention to offer an opportunity to young aspiring CEO‘s to prove their mettle in front of the existing leaders of the industry. The purpose was to discover new paradigms in leadership and manifest them into social and economic systems helping the young minds to carve their own niche.
The first phase started one and half months back with more than 2000 online and offline registrations across the country. Short listed 320 then qualified for the case study round and finally 70 young working professionals battled it on Sunday 07th March 2010 in EABS Campus for the title of ´EABS Star Future CEO‘
Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Director EABS on this initiative said, “The participation from all across the country was phenomenal and candidates were outstanding”. The Aspiring CEO‘s who won the title of star debated various realities of shaping the world that will help them understand to be successful in the coming years. A portfolio of each leader was created, their upbringing, what motivates them, and how they actually lead their businesses was charted out. We then looked at the finer nuances of how CEO‘s measure success, the situations and industries in which they foray into, and their SWOT analysis. A Pharma graduate, Parth sheth from Bangalore bagged a lakh cash prize along with the title. Runners-up were Manu Jindal, BE, a teacher by profession, Pune, Sumeet Kohli, BSc Comp. “While all young minds wish to do something revolutionary, there are only a few with the correct blend of knowledge, attitude and passion to transform a vision into a thriving reality. To compliment the entire event, ´Coffee with CEO‘ was organized on a weekly basis where aspirants leveraged on years of rich experience of noteworthy CEO‘s. This tete a tete was informal and brought about some vivid CEO coaching experiences to the table.

Students adopt 15 road-side vendors (micro entrepreneur) across Pune in association with Young Indians (Yi) and World Entrepreneurship Forum (WEF).

Pune, January 28th, 2010: It is difficult to imagine Indian cities without roadside small vendors. You can easily spot 10-20 small vendors occupy the prime spots at major shopping locations in India. In fact the National Policy on Urban Street Vendors, 2009 recognizes street vendors, hawkers, pheriwallas, rehri-patri wallas, footpath vendors, sidewalk traders, etc, as an integral and legitimate part of the urban retail trade and distribution system. On the completion of India‘s 60 years, Europe Asia Business School along with Young Indians (YI) and World Entrepreneurship Forum (WEF) has adopted 15 urban street-vendors.
EABS takes the first step towards this initiative by aiming to empower and enlighten its students by organizing a campaign for the promotion of Micro-Enterprises. Rightly named ´microSCOPE‘, the students of 1 year PGPM adopts diverse micro-entrepreneurs which range across sweet shops, wada pav vendors and florists to small grocery stores and sandwich vendors thereby getting an overall knowledge of the end-to-end business and opportunity to apply management concepts learnt in the classroom. Since all these micro-entrepreneurs largely operate in unorganized sectors, there is an immense potential of growth and improvement visible & untapped.
Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Director EABS on this initiative said, “I personally believe that the Indian growth story should be inclusive. First of all it is not limited to urban rich or middle class, we have to provide adequate support to urban poor and rural class.” He further added, “We should create capabilities at the bottom of pyramid, through this exercise, we are helping the road-side vendors to take the next step in value chain. Imagine a country with small vendors providing high quality stuff with high customer orientation”.
Every student will partner with his micro-business entrepreneur for a period of 4 months to understand the business better and have first hand experience; they are spending a whole day working at the business. Beginning from knowing about the suppliers, the procurement process all the way to understanding the target customers and the marketing strategies. In due course, the students will also learn how an entrepreneur is able to plan for sales, timings, location and promotion of his product. Besides all this, they will get a know-how of managing resources and utilizing them efficiently. Not only will this help them in understanding every aspect of

minimizing cost of production, but will also get a first hand experience of interacting with customers and getting their feedback.

Ms. Monika Trivedi, Chapter Chair- Young Indians (Yi), Pune said “Yi‘s key initiative is to work with employability. The campaign for micro-entrepreneurs by EABS is very exciting. I am very enthusiastic about how the students help these small vendors in improving their productivity and teaching them the intricacies of management even at this grass root level. If this pilot campaign works for EABS then this will be a pioneer in replicating this model across other states. We are also trying to reach out to the corporates for an active participation in this unique initiative.”
Apart from the above, the students will get a chance to peek into the entrepreneur‘s financial records which eventually will aid in understanding his management of working capital, sources of finance and his daily record keeping of sales. In a nut shell, the objective of the entire program is to have a complete learning curve for students varying from multinational CEOs to a CEO of vada pav stall. Towards the end of the process, the students can create a value proposition to aid the business in consistently moving up the value chain.
To this the owner of Aditya vada pav centre, Viman Nagar says, “It is very unusual that college students come to us and help in our business. Earlier I was hesitant in taking Nimesh‘s advice, but when he began suggesting me things to improve my business without putting in extra money, I realized I could actually do it without any efforts. Now I am really thankful to him and the college for considering us to be businessmen and thinking they can learn something from us in spite of being a road- side vendor.”

12th December, Pune: Experience is widely acknowledged to be the best teacher, and the latest initiative by Europe Asia Business School (EABS) does precisely that, by putting participants right in the centre of the action. EABS believes that the strength of an academic program is best judged by the fine balance between academic rigour and student participation in extracurricular activities. Mandi is a brilliant example which demonstrates this fine balance in a unique way.
Aptly named - Mandi, the event is a one-day field experience that helps students appreciate management theory by putting it into practice in the bustle of the city's market places. The event will see students selling products manufactured by a Mumbai based NGO Navnirmiti on some of the city's busiest thoroughfares like Jangli Maharaj Road, Fergusson College road, kothrud, Aundh etc . The products on sale consist of high-quality science and maths learning tools namely Jodo 3-D Kit, Tangram, Number Balance for primary and high school students.
“This is an excellent approach to learning and the pedagogical approach of combining self learning with first hand experience is a unique one; this perhaps helps budding managers to learn and practice the theories of management,” says Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Director, Europe Asia Business School. “This is not only learning but fun for the students who will understand about the customer‘s mindset, behaviour and expectations while getting to directly evaluate his or her marketing skills on the ground level”, he concludes.

A pre-Mandi event on the EABS campus will be held to discuss the details and benefits of the event following which the event will be flagged off. The winner will be decided not merely on the basis of who sells the most but in conjunction with a number of allied parameters including student's written reports, a viva voce and group presentations by the participating students.
At the end of the day participants will not only have mastered some of the most pertinent doctrines of marketing, sales, retail, strategy & management, but will also glean insights into human resource management and organizational psychology- and all in the spirit of good clean fun.

About Europe Asia Business School
The school is conceptualized by industialists and world renowned academicians including alumnus of Harvard and Cambidge Universities delivering outstanding business education, transformation capabilities for candidates and inspiring innovation at early stages of the programme.

EABS has adopted research-based management frameworks which provide the foundation for each of the programme. Study groups, interactive simulations, and case discussions reinforce the practical applications of these frameworks. At EABS, the learning initiative is an endeavor to encourage continuous innovation through people and technology. The scope of activities of EABS is very broad from leadership development to research in entrepreneurship models.
