Differences between Zoom Whitening and Other Teeth Whitening Treatments

If you have been longing for a more splendid smile, you should know you are not alone. Teeth can become discolored or stained for various reasons, such as drinking coffee or tea, eating curries or berries, or smoking or chewing tobacco. Even the natural aging process can leave your teeth looking dull and yellowed. Whitening your teeth can literally turn back the hands of time and make you look younger, more vibrant and healthier. Some products are available these days that can help you bleach away the stains, such as Zoom teeth whitening, a professional whitening procedure.

Some people turn to over-the-counter whitening products first when they are searching for whitening solutions. Over-the-counter tooth whitening treatments can range from toothpastes and mouth rinses to teeth whitening strips and gels. Toothpastes and mouth rinses are of uncertain benefit. They may be effective on mild superficial stains, still the toothpastes contain only gentle abrasives, while the mouth rinses do not remain in the mouth long enough to be in reality effective. Strips and gels can be more effective, but they can take weeks or months for visible results. All over-the-counter whitening treatments will need to be repeated to ensure lasting benefits.

In-office dental procedures are more effective. In-office procedures can include custom-made mouth trays and take-home bleaching gels or the Zoom procedure. Take-home kits include a custom-made mouth tray that fits securely in your mouth so that the gel has no or least contact with your gums. The bleaching gel is available in a higher concentration than that available in over-the-counter formulations so that results will be visible more quickly.

The Zoom whitening treatment is different. It is an in-office procedure that can be extremely effective for almost everyone, even those for whom traditional tooth whitening and over-the-counter treatments may not be appropriate. The Zoom teeth whitening treatment will start with a complete cleaning, followed by the dentist or hygienist protecting your gums and painting on the special Zoom bleaching gel. When the gel has been applied, it will be activated by the special Zoom light, which allows the gel to go deep within the enamel to break up stains, even in the dentin.

The combination of Zoom’s powerful bleach and special light allows it to work quickly, often in less than an hour, and it leaves your teeth up to eight shades lighter. As long as you correctly follow aftercare instructions, your teeth will remain permanently whiter. For the best possible results, you will need to brush twice a day and floss every day. Frequent touch-ups with the Zoom at-home kit will be needed, as will periodic dental visits to make sure your teeth are as healthy as they are white.

Zoom whitening may not be appropriate for everyone. It is important to discuss any health conditions or concerns you have with your dentist prior to having any whitening procedure done.

Wilshire Dental Care offers Zoom whitening as well as different other teeth whitening treatments. Zoom teeth whitening has different advantages over the other methods of teeth whitening.
