Who in this world does not want to know how to effectively cope with stress? I do not think anyone in this world would like to be stressed out all of the time. I do not think there is anyone who would want to feel frazzled, weighed down and drained. But in this fast-paced society that we are living in, stress has become a normal part of most, if not all of our lives. Everyday, everybody deals with their own share of deadlines, frustrations and pressure--office workers, health workers, students and even housewives.

No matter what you do, there is just no way that you can absolutely avoid stress; what you can only do is lessen it to healthy levels.

One stress management technique that is very simple yet effective is the R-E-L-A-X approach. Read more about it below.

R- Recognize. Recognize the presence of stress in your life. This is your first step towards managing stress effectively. If you do not take this step, you will never be able to free yourself from the bonds of stress. In addition to accepting that you are burned out, you also need to identify the stressors in your life. In this way, you will be able to find specific solutions to each of the stressor.

E- Exercise. Exercise to divert your thoughts from stress and release negative emotions connected with it. It is well known and understood that exercise is an essential element in keeping a person physically healthy. Nevertheless, only very few people know about the significant role of exercise in a person's mental and emotional health. Exercise has the capability to naturally relieve stress. Try exercising when you are feeling particularly stressed and you will see how relieving it can be.

L - Letting Go. Letting go of things that are beyond your control. Too often, we are stressed out by things that we have no control of or things that have passed already. For instance, missed deadlines, the bad weather or the long traffic. If you evaluate the stressors in your life, you will see that so many of them are pointless. Remember that failure is a part of life and that things will not always happen according to your plan.

A - Attitude. "Attitude is everything." Your attitude will affect your life, your income, your health and your happiness. You should look at challenges and failures positively. Always do your best in everything that you do but learn to accept that you also have limits and weak spots. Learn to admit your weaknesses and accept help from others. A lot of people are highly stressed because they push themselves too much and look at seeking help from others as a sign of weakness or incapacity.

X- Xtra sleep. Sleep: it is quintessential to our lives. Every human being has the major basic functions in common. One of these vital necessities is the need to sleep. It should not be taken for granted. Adequate sleep fuels not only your mind but also your body. When you don't get enough sleep, you are going to have little energy and will also have reduced mental acuity. So be sure you sleep long enough and sleep well.

Stress does not only bring about negative emotions, studies have also revealed that it significantly contributes to the development of different mental and physical illnesses. Even though stress is not entirely bad as it sometimes can help push you to do your best, constant exposure to high levels of stress can have detrimental effects to your mind and body. No matter what you do, there is just no way that you can completely steer clear of stress; what you can only do is reduce it to healthy levels.
