(12PressRelease.com) Berlin 27th October Today it was officially announced that Facebook, Inc, the largest social network in the world has filed three lawsuits in San Jose federal court against spammers, in order to protect user privacy on the social network. Facebook announced these violations as a breach of the U.S. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, as well as other state and federal laws.

Facebook, Inc, the largest social network in the world has on the 27th of October announced in a San Jose federal court, that it is filing three lawsuits against spammers, violating Facebook‘s terms of service. "In three separate complaints, we allege that Steven Richter, Jason Swan, and Max Bounty, Inc. used Facebook to offer enticing, but non-existent products and services," Facebook said in a blog post. The suits concerns applications designed by Steven Richter, Jason Swan and the advertising company Max Bounty, Inc, in where the applications where used as a means of tricking Facebook users to sign up for mobile subscriptions, or spam their friends.

The company Max Bounty, Inc, promised users $250 discount on MAC Cosmetics if they completed a three-step process, but instead users where transferred to a third party site called “Superb-Rewards.net”. Another site created by Max Bounty, Inc stated falsely that they were looking for I-pad testers. In the Swan case, applications were used to get user contact information and in the end tricking them to sign up for mobile subscriptions. The complaint states that the three defendants had used Facebook as a way of tricking users into visiting third-party sites.

“We hate spam and phishing just as much as you do, and we work hard to keep it off Facebook,” the company said in a statement. The three lawsuits are more of many to come, the company announced through their blog on Facebook. “We will press on with enforcement and collection efforts against spammers and fraudsters, and we‘re committed to applying continuous legal pressure to send a strong message to spammers that they‘re not welcome on Facebook”, Facebook, Inc commented on their made announcement.

Facebook has taken actions against spammers in the past. Last February, the social network was given $711 million in damages against Sanford Wallace, who ran a spamming and phishing scam on the site. Facebook also won a $873 million suit against Adam Guerbuez and his company, Atlantis Blue Capital, in November of 2008. In the history of the CAN-SPAM Act, these are the largest two judgments ever awarded, Facebook said. Facebook, Inc, said it has other actions pending, and promised "more to come."

Founded in February 2004, Facebook is a social utility that helps people communicate more with their friends, family and coworkers. The company has 500 million members worldwide and develops several technologies that make information sharing through the social graph possible, the digital mapping of people's real-world social connections. Anyone can sign up for Facebook and interact with the people they know in a trusted environment. Facebook is a part of millions of people‘s lives and half of the users return daily.
