Pune, May 7th, 2010: A pioneering initiative to enhance employability for the youth was announced at Pune today by a unique Public Private association comprising of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Global Talent Track (GTT). This initiative will help thousands of students to access quality oriented assessment and counselling aimed at employment in a variety of sectors. On the occasion of the 50th Golden Jubilee Year of the formation of the Maharashtra State, PMC and GTT have decided to empower the youth of the city of Pune. Pune being an educational hub draws in large number of students from both India as well as abroad.
In order to provide career support and help youth take correct Career Decisions, the 50th year celebrations of the state was an apt occasion to launch the major youth campaign
“Youth Employability Support (Y.E.S)†this intiative will provide employability assessment support to 50,000 students across Pune aimed at the age group of (18-25 years) from various socio-economic segments and will generate awareness about employability among the students of Pune.
The aim is to spread the awareness about ´employability‘ especially among weaker strata of society who lack accessibility to make informed decision regarding their career.
PMC is blessing this intiative by providing Common Civic Service centers. PMC has the legacy of assisting or helping various such activities in the past.
In response to this initiative, Mr. Mahesh Zagade, Commissioner, PMC, says, “India in order to achieve global leadership by 2022 has to train 500 million people creating a global workforce. And what better places than Pune- ´The Oxford of the East‘ to flag off such an initiative which uses technology to provide awareness and opportunities about employability and I am sure this will soon become next big step in country‘s skill development activities.â€
Dr. Uma Ganesh, CEO GTT says, “PMC GTT partnership will help in bringing in reality to the lives of thousands of youth in Pune who wish to make it big in their careers. Indian professional talent has been recognized world over and the reality is when it comes to skills, its track record has been far from satisfactory. The percentage of population amongst the youth that is single skilled is 96% in the case of Korea, 28% in the case of Mexico and 22% in the case of Botswana. India‘s skill base stands at just over 5% amongst the youth and that is a cause for concern. YES Campaign which will run for a week starting 28 April will provide free professional Talent Assessment Tests via online to all interested youth and help them identify their potential as well as suitability for different employment opportunities.â€
It is the responsibility of the citizens of the country to make the youth of the Nation not just employed but employable at the same time. Keeping the above in mind, GTT is initiating a campaign called “Youth Employability Support (Y.E.S)†with an aim to bring together all the stakeholders of the society to start a movement towards employability of the youth. The campaign is targetted at students of Pune between the age of 18 24years. Through this campaign awareness is spread about the concept of employability and how the youth can improve their employability. GTT will also offer free career guidance facility to all participating students through it‘s “Talent Assessment Processâ€. Participants will be offered feedback and carreer counseling sessions based on the assessments.
