1) Analjit Singh
Analjit Singh is the founder president of Max India, a diversified business group with operations in the field of health care, IT services and financial services too is the current highest individual tax payer for the reported year.
He paid an advance tax of a whopping 99.7 crores and paid 13.3 crores in the fiscal year ended 2008-09. His income has increased by manifolds the company has purchased some stakes in the Vodafone Essar and has been enjoying substantial customer queries, pertaining to their large line of business league.
2)Asim Ghosh
Asim Ghosh, the former CEO of Vodafone Essar, is the second highest individual tax payer with a payout of 75.4 crores. When compared to 7.2 crores in 2008-09, he has paid 75.4 crores this year. Like his numero uno counterpart, Analjit Singh, Asim Ghosh too made a huge profit when he sold out his 2.39% stakes in Vodafone Essar for an amount of 329 INR in 2009.
3)Indrani Patnaik
With a pay out of 75 crores INR, Indrani Patnaik comes third on the elite list. She is the wife of former congress minister Niranjan Patnaik‘s elder brother Dipti Ranjan Patnaik.
She was also in the news a few years ago for her alleged cases of illegal mining that were filed against it and led to a huge uproar in the Orissa state assembly.
4)Ashish Dhawan
Ashish Dhawan is the next highest tax payer for the financial year with a payment of Rs 55 crores.
Also he is the senior managing director and co-founder of Chrys Capital Investment Advisors and paid an income tax of 20 crores when compared to this year.
5)Kamaljeet Singh Ahluwalia
Kamaljeet Singh Ahluwalia having huge interests in the mining field in the Orissa state of India forms the fifth highest income tax payer In India with a pay of 46 crores.
However, this year‘s tax pay from him has reduced a bit as he had a 60 crores income tax payout in the last financial year.
Other highest tax payers in India for 2009-10
• Mumbai-based industrialist Mahesh G. Gorodia- 39.3 crores
• Business man Gariappa Raja- 30.5 crores
• Goa-based minor Radha S. Timblo- 30.8 crores
• Founder of SKS Microfinance, Vikram Akula- 14.2 crores
These were the people who made big in their respective areas of operation and clinched their fist on the list of highest income payers for the tax India has collected for the year 2009-2010.
The amount they have paid has made us think that India is not a poor country at least on papers.
However, it‘s ironical to say that despite of so much wealth being accumulated, the government is doing little to improve the overall lifestyle of its citizens as still there are people who are unable to meet up their basic demands of food, clothes, shelter and education, respectively.
