Effective care for teeth is a process that is well known to science. It is interesting that in this area there really aren't any unknowns. The way to take care of your teeth is readily available, especially online. If you do not have dental insurance, then the onus is on you to become informed. Daily action will need to be taken at this point if you want healthy teeth. Make the effort to see a dentist at least once a year if you can. That is all about prevention because losing your teeth due to excessive decay and poor care is depressing.

There are millions of people who have teeth that are sensitive to different temperatures. Foods that are too hot or too cold can really get your attention in a very painful way. If you suddenly experience that type of sensitivity, then it is best to see your dentist. This is usually a sign of an impending cavity or that you have swollen nerves in your teeth. However, many folks have chronically sensitive teeth, and in that case it is advisable to use a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth. A soft bristled brush is also a good choice. Also, your dentist might have some great advice for how to handle this.

When you visit your dentist, make sure that you ask questions. There really isn't any better source in terms of proper information about the care of your teeth and gums. For example, ask your dentist about the best toothbrush to use, and should you use a hard or soft bristle brush. Sadly, hard bristled brushes can be bad for the gums. In addition, it is important to note that if you use a hard bristled brush and push down too hard with it, you could cause your gum line to prematurely recede. This is something that takes time but even to very young people, receding gums are a problem. If it happens to you you will start to notice sensitive teeth because the receding gums expose parts of the teeth that have previously been hidden.

It is a sad fact that living in Western modern culture that we are exposed to such a large amount of foods that have a very high sugar content. It is also true that there are more people who eat too much sugar. We get more cavities because we are always forcing our teeth to deal with more sugar than they should ever have to deal with. So it is very important that we make a conscious effort to choose foods that don't contain sugar. At least try to work some in there somewhere. Also, after you eat a sugary snack, rinse out your mouth with some water. It is also a good idea to chew only sugarless gum (or do both things). Word of advice for locating a good dental office: Grab your copy of the Yellow Pages and look under "www.EdwardMoonDDS.com" or wherever you live and scan the listings and ads.

You will discover that maintaining healthy teeth and gums is relatively easy to accomplish. Even if you eat sweets or drink soft drinks, there are measures you can take to lessen the harmful effects.
