The above advertising message is not one of ours, but as an online PPI claims company, PPI Refund 4 Me.co.uk is concerned that recent media reports exposing “PPI vultures†(Yahoo! Finance, Monday 23 April) could tar all PPI claims companies with the same brush.
PPI Refund 4 Me.co.uk acknowledges that there are PPI claims companies which do employ tactics such as cold calling and charge excessive fees or fees upfront for processing PPI claims.

Yahoo! Finance also reports that some PPI claims companies submit claims to banks which have no chance of being successful and may even be fraudulent thus taking up the banks‘ time, which in turn means passing the cost of processing unsuccessful or fraudulent claims onto customers through bank charges.

Yahoo! Finance also claims that some of the marketing used to attract PPI customers is a lie, eg “If you‘ve taken out a loan or credit card in the last six years, your bank could owe you money.â€
Although Yahoo! goes on to point out that the “lie†relates to the failure to mention that it is PPI attached to a loan or mortgage which is potentially eligible for refund, the fact is that many loans and other forms of credit were arranged with PPI policies which were unsuitable or which customers may not even have been aware they were paying for.

- Until recent media coverage, many consumers might not even have known what PPI was establishing whether the customer has taken out a loan or mortgage is the first step to discovering whether they have been mis-sold PPI.
- Not all PPI claims companies “lie†about the services they offer or deliberately exaggerate the potential for large payouts from making PPI claims.
- Despite the help available via the Ombudsman, some customers are not able to cope with the process of making a claim or the stress of taking on their bank or lender – and prefer to engage a reputable claims company to do this for them.
