As someone who is running his or her own "traditional" (some may say "brick and mortar") business, you probably see the Internet as an "extra." It's likely that you only use it when you need to do emailing and not any other time. Maybe you have a basic website for your business. You may believe that it's working for you. But what if you want to expand your business even more? There is a vast and varied market of people who do almost all of their shopping online--you could learn how to reach those people. So how do you do this? If you want to use IM to expand your traditional business, here are a few things that you can do.
Start a newsletter for your business. This is possible to do both online and offline. If you have a list of mailing addresses, you can print out a newsletter and send it through the post to your list. You could also create an email version that you send out to the people who have given you their email addresses. Email newsletters are much cheaper (and easier) both in terms of creation and mailing methods. It also allows you to avoid both the mailing and printing costs. When your newsletter is Internet based, you just have to think up the content. This is better for your budget both in terms of time and dollars spent.
Make sure that your business and website are listed in all of the business directories you can find.
Do not limit yourself to your local chamber of commerce's directory. There are a wide range of directories on the internet, which have free membership. You can also build mutually beneficial relationships with other offline and online business owners because some of these directories also function like social media sites. It only requires a few minutes of your time to submit your business and site to these directories and the more incoming links you have the better.
Convince some of your existing customers to post reviews on what doing business with you is like. The reviews can be posted on Yelp or Google - basically on any site people go to search for information on various services and products and the local businesses that offer them. Make sure people are completely honest in what they write. This will help get people in the doors who are doing specific searches in your local area. Remember, Internet Marketing doesn't ignore the "traditional" world. It just enhances it somewhat.
If you want to integrate Internet Marketing methods into your offline and traditional business, you have lots of different options to choose from. It is possible that you may be doing a few of them right now and not yet know it. Building a website, for instance, is something that all Internet Marketers have to do. Using things like email marketing to a list, social media marketing, etc are all ways of using Internet Marketing to both grow and expand your business. So instead of shunning the Internet, embrace it so that you can use it to increase your profit margin!
